Are you ready for an emergency? Weather conditions can reduce your quality of life to a few moments of clarity, wits - or preparation which will pave the way for the immediate future. No one wants to think that in a moment they may have to abandon house and home, but just in case, we have consolidated a list to help begin thoughts as to how to best prepare for the unthinkable. Always have these items ready: c
Traveler’s
belt
or fanny-pack with: Reports of cash stolen from mattresses at shelters have been common-place, so it is important to keep these valuable documents hidden on your “person” at all times. c Pets – how will they travel, and who will accept them? Most “shelters” do not. Keep carriers, crates and extra food near the outside exit. If you must leave them behind, make sure they are micro-chipped so your chances of being reunited are increased. c Medications (minimum 1 month) for each family member and pets are essential. Prescription & doctor’s phone numbers. c Fire-safe that can be carried out would be ideal, especially if you’re not confined to a shelter. Include:c CDs of digital photos of household items & valuables c computer back-ups of all business and financial records c photos and bibles c address /phone book
